Caim (pronounced as keim) is a Celtic word that originally was the name of a protective spirit in the early pre-Christian days. Caim has since become more of a prayer of protection and is associated with the idea of drawing a protective circle around yourself (or someone else) as a means of safety and sanctuary. The idea of a Caim is a wonderful one, and it’s a method of self-soothing for those of us who are highly sensitive. To draw or picture a Caim around yourself in overwhelming situations creates a place of calm and provides you with a sense of peace, safety and calm. It’s something I do quite often.
A Caim can be any size, any color – it’s whatever you want so long as it makes you feel safe and loved.
I love that I now have a beautiful word in Caim to describe another coping mechanism in this often overwhelming and sometimes scary world.
