Word Nerd: Winsome

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsywinsome definition Word Nerd via LaWhimsyWinsome means generally pleasing and engaging, often because of a childlike charm or innocence. Winsome derives from the Old English wynn (joy or pleasure).

Winsome also means cheerful, lighthearted and charming. Winsome is a fantastic descriptive term that has so many, well, winsome uses! One can have a winsome smile, a winsome laugh, a winsome style. Someone could stroll winsomely through a room or have a winsome attitude.

Winsome is a word that I have known forever and that I probably overuse, but it’s just such a joy of a word. I mean, who doesn’t want to be described as winsome at least once (if not more) in their life?! I suppose some could look upon winsome as a negative, but childlike innocence belongs in life more than just in childhood. It’s a gift of pure delight and being able to tap into and protect that kind of winsome innocence is something worth striving for. What do you think of the word winsome?
