Word Nerd: Dysania

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsydysania-definition-word-nerd-via-lawhimsyDysania (also known as Clinomania) is the irresistible and overwhelming desire to stay in bed. While dysania can be a serious medical issue (it can be tied to depression, anxiety, etc.) it can also simply be a state of being caused by everyday stress or even the weather. Dysania is that all-encompassing feeling one gets when, instead of waking up and getting on with the day, all you want is to stay in your deliciously cozy bed. Dysania makes your body feel like it’s filled with liquid lead, your head feel heavy and thick with an aching need to be resting upon your pillow, and you can sense an almost physical pull from your core making rising up seem an impossibility. Dysania is a cruel, painful curse on a day when you have to rise and get going, but it’s a scrumptious indulgence when you can give in and embrace the desire and your bed fully.

Soft and cool, the sheets do beckon / rumpled blankets curl and threaten / Cozy up, do give in / let the dysania decent be a welcome friend. / Pillow soft, lumped just right / the bed a heady tumble from the night. / So morning has dawned / who really cares? / Settle your woes and resist despair. / Sleep a bit longer / indulge for a time / the world will still be there / you’ll shine and all will be just fine. ~ Ella

Maybe, just maybe, there is time to give in to the dysania from time to time.

Namaste ~ Ella
