Note: I think the lovely Miss Bardot’s expression in this particular image denotes a slightly obtuse perplexity, no obtuse “dumb blond” jokes here!
Obtuse is a word known for it’s mathematical usage (hello obtuse triangles. It’s been awhile since we’ve had the pleasure of working out equations with you.), however I have always been one to use it more for it’s rather blunt descriptive qualities. I mean, who in their right mind would want to be considered obtuse in their thinking or understanding?! Certainly there have been times when I’ve been utterly obtuse, though hopefully more often than not it’s been in a hilariously obvious way (you know, one of those “OH! Of course! Duh!” moments.) rather than in a hurtful or insensitively unkind way.
What do you thin of the term obtuse? Have you ever used it outside of a classroom setting?
