Affirmation Mondays 274 – One small thought in the morning can change your whole day

One small thought in the morning can change your whole day.” ~ Life Wisdom

Your thoughts are in your control and no one else’s…

“One small thought in the morning can change your whole day.”

Take a moment and read that quote again and let it resonate. One small thought in the morning can change the trajectory of your whole day. One small thought is all it takes to determine the path your day will wind along.

One small thought.

The real trick is, which kind of thought will you choose to follow? Will it be a thought based in a poverty mindset, the kind that sees only lack and loss and never enough? Or perhaps it will be one based in hopelessness, one that sees only failure and pointless endeavor. Or maybe it will be one of anger and rage, one that sees everything as an attack, as a personal affront. Or will it be a thought that mixes the above with a sort of complacency and shrug, kind of like a “well, that’s just how it is” couple with a heavy sigh…

Not so kind or nice or welcoming, yet how often do we so willingly just fall into these kinds of thought patterns? How often do you find yourself waking up with a groan and simply going along with the expected flow of the day and the rather negative/pessimistic thoughts and views that go along with it?

When was the last time you woke up feeling excited and eager for the day? The last time you were delighted to greet another morning and feel the joy of the day that has yet to unfold before you? When did you last simply smile at the gift of a new day?

Don’t despair if it’s been quite awhile, because you have the ability to begin doing just that and to make it a habit. No, I’m not just talking nonsense. You see the trick is that you – yes, YOU – are in total control of your thoughts and feelings. So you get to decide if these will be optimistic or pessimistic in nature.

It’s all a mindset and to develop the mindset you want, you simply have to begin thinking it.

I honestly don’t believe that people are optimistic or pessimistic by nature, rather by nurture. By this I mean that whatever mindset has been nurtured and fed is the one that will tend to become the default. With the way society on the whole is set up, pessimism is all the rage (pun intended) and optimism is seen with suspicion.

Take pessimism, it’s seen as this supposedly educated and worldly viewpoint, and yet it’s a very narrow and stuck mindset that just digs itself a hole that keeps on getting deeper. Optimism, on the other hand, is not blind, nor ignorant, as many would like to assume,  rather it’s the active choice to make the best of what’s at hand and continue forward  seeking out the best of each outcome. That said, with the way society on the whole is set up, pessimism is all the rage (pun intended) and optimism is seen with suspicion. It’s a crying shame.

By actively choosing to nurture a more optimistic mindset instead of the seemingly more readily programed pessimistic mindset, you can change your day and by extension, your life. By making that one small thought you have in the morning be one of joy, delight, wonder, excitement, or gratitude, you can set the course of your day down a much more fulfilling path.

This bit of advice doesn’t work for just the morning either. Any time you actively choose the thoughts you have, you are changing the course of your day. You can choose the pessimistic, sure, and that’s okay, but of you begin deciding upon the more optimistic, your life will shift for the better. Try it and see for yourself and then be in awe at the power you possess!
