Induratize is a word meaning to harden one’s heart to someone’s pleas or advances or to the idea of love. Induratize is, in other words, to close one’s very spirit. There are many, many reasons why one would choose to induratize themselves. Heartache is painful, agonizing, and at times it feels like it’s just too much to endure, and as a defense mechanism one induratizes themselves. However, while it may seem less painful, it actually leads to a different kind of pain. A hollow, empty, lonely sort of ache that longs for softness again. Induratization is not an answer, not for the human heart that yearns for love despite the pain.
A heart of stone, hardened to pain. / Induratized, it thinks it’s gained / reality proves that it’s still a loss / lonesome and aching / standing still as it’s no longer tossed. / Softened again it will ache and it will love / it will learn that the pain is worth the joy it once lost. ~ Ella
They say that people build walls and induratize to keep out the sadness and pain, yet those same walls keep out the joy and the good, and aren’t they worth some vulnerability? I certainly think so!
Namaste ~ Ella

Induratize–a great word, and a fantastic base for the name of my (post apocalyptic) warrior caste. Thanks!
