“I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t laugh.” ~ Maya Angelou
Laughter is the sound of the soul in all it’s gladsome delight. At least that’s how I tend to view it.
Maya Angelou‘s whole quote goes “I am serious, so I laugh a lot. You need to laugh. You don’t laugh enough. I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t laugh.” and I find so much truth in Her wisdom. Laughter, true, joyous, silly laughter is a wondrous thing and there is so much to laugh with and about each day.
Nothing breaks tension, nervousness, unease, sadness, despondency, quite so much as genuine laughter. Children innately know this and laugh with ease, while adults tend to not laugh as much (there are studies that claim children laugh 300-500 times a day, while adults laugh less than 20 times, though how accurate these numbers are is questionable).
Yes, life is seemingly more serious when one is an adult, but wouldn’t be more bearable if we only laughed more? I love to laugh, from little giggles to full-on tears running down my cheeks, belly aching laughs. Laughter feels good and it’s so infectious!
Anyone who doesn’t laugh (or only laughs in mocking or cruelty, which is not the same) doesn’t get my trust. Laughter is a tell and a wonderful one at that. Find ways to laugh more each day and you’ll find a more positive outlook comes even easier!
