A Lavaliere, or ornamental pendant necklace, is an easily recognized piece of jewelry. The lavaliere came into fashion in the 17th century and was named after the Duchesse de La Vallière, who was no less then mistress to the Sun King himself, Louis XIV, from 1661 to 1667. A lavaliere can be recognized most for its drop style pendant which is attached to the chain.
This elegant lady, the Duchesse de La Vallière, knew how to start a lovely trend!
The
lavaliere style of necklace is quite lovely and one, I am sure, many a
quaintrelle has adorned herself with! I know I have many such baubles that fit delightfully into the
lavaliere category and many more on my dream wishlist!
Do you like the lavaliere style necklaces and if so, what kind do you have?
Namaste ~ Ella
