Kontal-Kontil is the swinging of long earrings or the swishing of a dress as one walks. Kontal-Kontil is an Indonesian term that has no direct English counterpart, which is a real shame.
Poetic words from other languages like kontal-kontil are one of my favorite things. It shows both the limits of the English language and the amazing depth that other languages can impart and share. I’m certain that there are English words that are unique and that other languages and cultures might appreciate as I appreciate kontal-kontil.
Walking along in a long dress and letting the skirts swish about my legs or wearing dangling earrings and feeling them dance about, all kontal-kontil, is such a pleasant delight.
Kontal-Kontil is a word that is dear to my heart since it’s one of those dreamy little pleasures that life has to offer and it’s one I indulge in quite often!
