Jollification is any joyous diversion or festivity. Jollification is a combination of jolly and -fication which is a word-forming element meaning “a making or causing”and it appears to have been first used in or around 1809-1810. It’s said that jollification’s shortened form of jolly led to phrase “get one’s jollies”, which is apt and hilarious.
Jollification is merrymaking, and it’s usually a boisterous, delightful, fun time. I have a personal reason for sharing jollification this week and that’s my birthday (March 17th)! I fully intend to have a weekend jollification to celebrate and mark the occasion! What better excuse for a joyful diversion, a commemorative jollification, than one’s birthday?!
