Word Nerd: Gluggaveour

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsygluggaveour definition Word Nerd via LaWhimsyGluggaveour means window-weather. Gluggaveour is Icelandic in origin and it describes the kind of weather that appears so picturesque through a window, yet is not so enjoyable when one is out in it. There is no real English equivalent to gluggaveour, or at least not one that appears so poetic and succinct.

I’m unsure of the pronunciation of gluggaveour (and my spell-check really wants to change it to luggage?!?) but I simply had to share this love of a word. Gluggaveour so aptly captures that feeling of viewing a cold, dark, rainy day from inside where all is cozy, warm and bright. Such days are best when one doesn’t have to set one foot outside, hence the delight of gluggaveour and the down-side when one has to go out (though I suppose the dogs don’t like it any better then I do).

Despite not knowing how to actually say the word gluggaveour, I can think of many a description that could utilize the term quite nicely! If anyone does know how to pronounce gluggaveour please feel free to share your knowledge!

Namaste ~ Ella
