How marvelous is it to know that at the center of your being, the center of your soul, you have the answer to that ultimate life question of who am I and what do I want?!
“At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want.“
Lao Tzu provides endless, glorious wisdom about the entirety of one’s soul and the depths of it’s unique powers (see Monday Mantra 66 and 109 for more) and this quote is no different. We each of us go through our lives constantly asking these two questions of “Who am I?” and “What do I want?”. We also tend to go searching for the answers, seeking them in this object or that person or this goal or that. While that’s not a bad thing, we won’t find the answers to the questions at hand, or at least we are taking the longest, most convoluted road to them.
Why? Well the key lies in this wisdom from Lao Tzu. We have the answers in us already. Deep within us we have a certain knowing that is aching for our enlightenment and attention. It is poised and ready to provide the guidance and solutions we seek, but to get to them we must turn inward and that can be difficult, especially in a world that holds so much credence in the outward.
It is not impossible, however, to circumvent our outward, peer-approval and pressured society and listen instead to our inner guide. To seek out the answers that we know ring true for US, not anyone else. I know, I’ve walked both roads and have lost myself to outward pressures and false answers. To come home, back to myself and my soul, has been a blessing and made me see even clearer just how wise and sure these words are.
Don’t despair if you feel you’ve fallen off-course or lost touch with your inner guide and answers. They are still there and will always be there, waiting with endless patience for you to return to yourself, to return home. Don’t fear the answers either, for they are Your’s and You are complete and amazing and who you are and what you want are reflections of that!
