Vorfreude means joyful anticipation. More specifically, vorfreude is the feeling of anticipation of something pleasurable or desired in the future. Vorfreude is pronounced for-froi-duh (don’t let that v fool you). Vorfreude is a German word that doesn’t have an equal in the English language, at least not one that fully “gets” the full meaning since anticipation is somewhat lacking.
Vorfreude is a truly fantastic word and one that is very much needed, since I know that I feel vorfreude all the time! Vorfreude is that giddy, excited feeling that you feel when you think about an upcoming event or trip that you are really, really looking forward to. That hopeful, joyful sense you get when you think about a new season and what you’ll do during it, that’s vorfreude. Vorfreude is when you daydream and find yourself really looking forward to all the possibilities that lay before you and that you can create and it’s awesome!
Think about how amazing you can make tomorrow, or even the rest of today, and revel in the feelings of vorfreude ~ and then make it happen, make it real!
Vorfreude is an attitude, a feeling, that we as a society and a world really need to cultivate. We need to nurture and indulge in hope, in the promise of a better tomorrow and we need to then act on those feelings of vorfreude and make them come to pass. And then we need to keep on repeating it, over and over and over until it becomes a habit and we all feel vorfreude as we all think of the future and it’s endless, positive opportunities!
