A Feminist is any person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of all genders, regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, religion, ability, and sexual orientation. A feminist is one who supports feminism and feminism is the belief that all women and all men should have equal rights and opportunities.
This definition of feminist may seem like quite the mouth full, however it needs to be spelled out as clear as possible since there are still so many who mistake the definitions of feminist and feminism as the hatred of men or some such nonsense. A feminist is one who wants equality. Equality, as in equal to – not better than or more than, just equal to. It’s insane to think it has to be spelled out that Feminism is the radical notion that women are the equals of men, or you know, people too. And a feminist is one who acts on and pushes forth the narrative that all women and all men, no matter their race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, or socioeconomic class are equals and deserve to be treated as such.
Feminism includes all genders and a Feminist can be any gender. It’s really that easy to remember.
While I find it ridiculous that Feminist needs to be defined, I also understand why it does and I am doing my best to make sure that this is a dialogue that helps to inform and dispel misinformation. It puts me in mind of this ~ “Feminism? No thanks, I prefer gender equality.” = “Water? No thanks, I prefer H20.”. Think about it.
