Yonderly is a terrific descriptive word that means absent-minded or distant-minded. One would have a yonderly stare if they were lost in thought or be yonderly if they were being inattentive when someone is talking or expressing themselves to them. Yonderly comes from the base word yonder, which means “over there” or “at a distance”. By saying someone is being yonderly it’s because their mind is over yonder and not present.
Her yonderly gaze went beyond the classroom’s walls, past the monotone voice of the lecturer, and reached out to the far horizons and the adventures that awaited there…
Yonderly is a word I intend to use a lot more, especially since I do rather adore the word yonder!
