“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” ~ Maya Angelou
Rainbows are made up of joy, wonder, and light…
“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”
It’s no secret that I adore Maya Angelou (I mean these 5 Affirmation Mondays ~ 8, 142, 183, 224, and 269 are fairly good proof) and this is such a delightful quote of Her’s, filled with such strong, gentle wisdom. To try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud is to try and spread a bit of joy, a bit of light, in someone else’s day.
It can be something as simple as a smile shared with a stranger, or any kind of courtesy extended towards another as a kindness. A nice word here, a small act there, a sweet acknowledgment that another exists and inhabits this same space, this same world, as you.
You can also choose to be the rainbow in your own cloud by seeking out the more optimistic view of whatever you might be doing. You could extend some gentle kindness towards yourself by easing up on your own expectations and refusing to judge yourself, if even for a moment.
By choosing each day to try and be a rainbow your own cloud or in someone else’s (or even, dare I say, both), you are choosing to show up. You are choosing to be present and you are choosing to do so in a joyful manner.
It can be so easy to fall into complacency, to simply follow a set pattern of thinking and doing and being. But when you do that you end up ultimately unfulfilled and worn down. By choosing, instead, to maybe shine a bit of light and mindfulness onto yourself and others, you find a different way and a different outcome. One that most likely will be much more joyful and easy once you set that pattern into play.
Do what you can to be a rainbow in your own clouds today and maybe you’ll find yourself being a rainbow in someone else’s clouds too!
