Black Lives Matter…

“History, despite its wrenching pain cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.”

History keeps repeating itself on the backs and lives of the African American population. It has to stop here and now. It is beyond too far and too late.

The sheer fact that so many have been killed in cold blood simply because of the color of their skin is repellent and the fact that it’s been okay and so many have simply looked the other way or given excuses for it or just ignored it is even worse.

White silence is violence. Point blank period.

There is looting going on and protests turning violent because this can no longer be ignored. This killing spree cannot go on. This bloodied taint upon the hands of the White community needs to be addressed and corrected. The inherent racism that is acted upon day in and day out, mindlessly by so many white people needs to be called out and changed. There is no place for it – there never was.

It is way past time for each white person to take a long, hard look at themselves and to see what can be done to set this right. To forge a future where we raise our fellow humans – no matter their skin tone or ethnicity – up to stand shoulder to shoulder in equality and solidarity.

It’s going to take work and effort but the lives of each and every single African American is worth it. They are our equals and they deserve a life without fear – fear of hate or harm or death just because of the color of their skin. It is time to take the burden of change back upon our white shoulders and get it done.

To all of my African American brothers and sisters – I’m Sorry. I’m sorry you have been made to seem less than and that you have had to bear burdens and do so much work just to be. I’m sorry that your voices have been ignored and your pain neglected at the experience of white ignorance and hate. I’m sorry you’re exhausted and hurting.

No lives matter until Black Lives Matter. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Black lives are not expendable and each time another precious life is taken away it affects us all. It’s time to stop the bleeding. Time to stop the racism. Time to show up and do the work.

“History, despite its wrenching pain cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” Let’s face this with courage and do everything possible to fix this broken system so that no one need ever loose a loved one to racial violence at the hands of the police or anyone else again.

Small steps you can take include educating yourself (click here for the Black Lives Matter site – there are permanent links to this site on my side bar and footer as well), donating to help bail out protesters (click here for the ActBlue and Progress America donation page), and discovering ways to take action (click here for the Indivisible action page). It’s also important to hold space for all the voices that need to be heard and to truly listen as you do.

Be a human and respect and value every single other human. Black Lives Matter so do better.

Namaste ~ Ella
