Kindness is the act of being caring or warm in spirit. Kindness is a thoughtful deed done with consideration. A friendly smile shared with a stranger, that’s kindness. A helping hand, a cordial wave, a generous gesture, that’s all kindness. Practicing forgiveness, towards yourself or others, that’s kindness. Listening to your heart, your conscious, your instincts and acting accordingly, that’s kindness. Doing what you can to make the world a more thoughtful, peaceful place, that’s kindness.
Why define kindness when it’s a word everyone already knows, you might ask? I’m doing it for the same reason I defined gratitude and gracious. Everyone may know what kindness is, but how many people actively practice kindness? Kindness is never misplaced or overused, and much like a gracious attitude or gratitude, it is never too much. There is always, always space for more kindness, more gratitude, more consideration. And in the current societal climate we find ourselves in, kindness is more needed then ever. Kindness is one of the strongest tools we all have and it is a great healer when it is used regularly. Kindness is one of the balms that will allow all of the open, raw wounds that are being exposed to heal and become something wonderful. Think about that…
Kindness in living creates harmony and contentment
There is so much to be thankful for, so much to hold dear and kindness can make it all flourish ten-fold. Add an active kindness practice to your life and see how it expands all around you. Flood the world with kindness and rejoice, knowing you are the start of something new, something amazing, and something stronger and more lasting than the crazy whirlwind of hate. Kindness is forever.
