Word Nerd: Irenic

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsyirenic-definition-word-nerd-via-lawhimsyIrenic describes something that is peaceful or creates peace and it is a most fitting word this week since we could all use something irenic. Irenic derives from from the Greek word eirēnē, which means peace (by no coincidence, Eirene is also the Greek goddess of peace). While the worship of the gods and goddesses has changed, I’m sure no appeals to Eirene would go amiss in the search for the irenical.

Irenic Eirene Goddess of Peace jacques dumont peace 1749 via LaWhimsyEirene is a hard goddess to pin down in art since it seems she is not quite as popular as Aphrodite. No matter, though, since she is well worth discovering and the search itself can be irenic since one is looking though images of peace and wonder.

May each of us find that irenic something and perhaps provide it as well, since peace and love are the two things which can bind us all together and heal and sooth all wounds.

Namaste ~ Ella
