Hygge (pronounced HU-guh) is a Danish word and way of living. Hygge, roughly and simplistically translated, means creating and fostering a warm, cozy atmosphere and enjoying it with the people you adore. I’ve been seeing hygge pop up here and there and the idea of it appealed to my quaintrelle soul. While hygge is not specifically a winter word, it does seem very appropriate for this cozy season that starts out in a flurry of social gatherings (at least it does in the Northern Hemisphere). The holidays have a certain way of embodying hygge, since they are a time of feeling an open-hearted warmth and love. I also love the idea of hygge being a coziness of the soul, since what better society to keep than one’s own. If you can find a sense of peace, warmth, and love in your soul, then hygge is yours.
Hygge – live it, love it, create it, share it & maybe foster a bit of it with my Centering Meditation!
Hygge is definitely a word I intend to wear out by not only using it, but by living and embodying it every day that I can! What do you think of the notion of hygge?
