How glad I am to live in a world with Octobers in it!

“the thing with October is, I think, it somehow gets in your very blood. Unapologetically. Almost ruthlessly.”

Autumn is out in full force here in the Northern Hemisphere and with it’s shortening days, cooler weather, and colorful foliage comes a certain change in the energies all around us. I know my energies begin to to flow with a hearty, uplifting sense of excitement and inspiration.

This year has been a bit different since there is a heaviness, a raw aching, to my energies that is brought on by a sense of loss and the mourning that goes along with it. Yet, even in this, there is still a sense of newness, of yet another beginning that happens alongside every ending.

It seems we are all stressed and anxious all the time. It’s like almost every situation is cause for heightened, nerve-wracking, on-edge emotions. And they are usually of the more pessimistic kind.

Autumn, after all, shows us how beautiful it is to let things go – even if it is the very last thing we truly wish or want to do. Loss is part of life and it can be both beautiful and painful, aching and lovely, and show us just how fragile life is and how strongly love endures.

This quote from Anne Sexton hit me square in the feels when I came across it, since in so many ways October is a month I feel to my very core. Maybe it’s not October, per say, but the way the Autumn invokes within me a deep sense of home, a sense of reawakening and a reminder of how awe-inspiring and magical, yet fragile and ephemeral Nature and life are and can always be.

This October I encourage you to take some time to simply experience Nature as it changes. Step outside and feel the fall air upon your skin, let your eyes take in the falling leaves, listen to the crunching upon the ground, the sound of rain as it puddles up, smell the wood smoke and let your heart expand with the wonder of it all. Allow October and the Autumn to get into your very blood and let yourself reawaken…
