Filipendulous means to be strung or suspended by a thread. So hanging by a thread could also be described as filipendulous. Filipendulous is made up of the words fili (thread) and pendulous (suspended so as to swing freely). I have often heard the phrase hanging on by a thread (or some variation or other of it) but I only recently discovered the word filipendulous. I think I almost like it more!
Hanging on by a thread /a tremulous sense of hope and dread. / A slight twist / a turn / a gasp / a wend. / Will it be over? / Will I begin? / Body taut/ mind ablaze / dangling over infinite space. / Moments and hours blur into one. / When will it end? / Should I hold on? / Whisper a plea / scream out a prayer / keep the belief that help will forever be there. / I have a choice / a chance to be free / to simply let go and trust in what will be… ~ Ella (Filipendulous: A Poem)
Filipendulous is a new favorite word, simply because it describes so much and it really struck my poetic muse!
Namaste ~ Ella
