Apricity is an exquisite word that derives from the Latin aprīcus (“warmed by the sun”). Apricity is a particularly apt word since yesterday marked Imbolc which is the middle of the Winter season. It’s also the time when the Groundhog makes his prediction and I know many feeling a sense of apricity hope for an early Spring. Apricity is the kiss of a promise, a note of wonder and warmth in the middle of the dark and cold, Nature’s way of saying that Spring is as eternal as hope and it will always arrive again.
Even the coldest, darkest days will give way to warmth and brightness. Apricity reminds us of this, and fills us with the yearning for those times that will come.
I intend to use the heck out of apricity, especially in the coming days as Winter enters it’s final stages and life begins to creep back into the Earth.
