Chirography is the art or study of handwriting in all of it’s aspects (including scriptotherapy!). Chirography is distinct from typography in that it is focused on what is written by and from the hand, not printed fonts (which are an amazing category unto themselves – and quite rightly so). I am a huge fan of chirography and think there is nothing more wonderful than a handwritten letter, note, or other bit of written delight. Chirography is something personal, since everyone has distinctive handwriting and there is something so charming about that. Whether it’s a flowing, cursive scrawl, or cramped basic printing, it’s your chirography.

Chirography is also an ideal word for this week since the 23rd is National Handwriting Day. Celebrate your handwriting, embrace it’s unique style or create and practice a style you adore. Let chirography become an enjoyable part of your life – in this tech age it can be a breath of fresh air!
