Word Nerd: Blithe

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsyblithe definition Word Nerd via LaWhimsyBlithe is such a joyful word and it means one who has a blissful, ecstatic disposition. Blithe has taken on a second, not so positive meaning, which is one who shows a casual and cheerful indifference. I don’t particularly care for that definition of blithe and prefer to use the word to mean overly joyful and euphoric. To have a blithe attitude is to have a cheerful, easy, delightful energy and demeanor. Showing a positive, upbeat, carefree manner is being blithe. Children are often blithe and we would all be wise to head their example more often. Yes, there are things that must be taken seriously, but really, being a bit blithe would help to balance it all out.

For me the word blithe will always conjure up images of lighthearted, elated laughter and delight. What do you think of the word blithe? Does it have positive or negative connotations for you? I’d love to know!
