Get Messy

Get Messy Week 8

Get Messy Week 8 by LaWhimsyIllusions and beetles and Oscar Wilde…yeah, this week was definitely all about a bit of fun!

Get Messy Week 8 by LaWhimsy page 1For page 1, I illustrated and colored in a charming cigarette beetle. Mind you, I am no Coleopterist nor am I into Entomology – I think insects are best left to the wild and away from me (or at least behind glass or something), but I do enjoy drawing them! I also added a charming Oscar Wilde quote that I adore and an Autumn leaf that I inscribed “Just believe” upon. Quite the delightful layout, I think!

Get Messy Week 8 by LaWhimsy page 2Page 2 features a mind-boggling zentangle illusion that was so much fun to create. I love it when just a few lines can create a 3D effect and I have a feeling I’ll be using this as a background design on future pages!

Beetle illustration detail by LaWhimsyJust because I can, here’s a more detailed shot of my cute beetle illustration. I really love how the color turned out (I’m a blending/layering maniac) and you can see the leaf a bit better here too. Drawing on leaves is one of my favorite Fall activities – right next to gathering the leaves!

  1. I like how both the colors AND the black and white are bold, without competing with each other. And you’re right, that blending on the beetle is great. Wish I could draw like that!

    1. Thanks, Violetta! I really enjoyed all of the drawing that went into this week’s pages and I was going for a sort of happy balance and it seems like I found it. 🙂
