Coquette is something of a unique word since negatively it can mean an insincere flirt or tease, however, positively it can mean an elegant and stylish person and can suggest an attractive or seductive person. To have or exhibit a coquettish personality can be a wonderful trait, if used in a favorable way.
I think a coquette is one who has mastered the art of being a delicious flirt – you know, the kind that seems to exude that kind of alluring charm that draws others to them and then leaves them feeling delighted and intrigued by the interlude. The fine art of coquettery puts me in mind of romantic and highly mannered situations that probably exist only in novels, but are still more than swoon worthy. Personally, I’d never want to be a tease, but to be considered a bit of a coquette wouldn’t be so bad, especially considering that I am so clueless that I couldn’t even tell if someone was actively flirting with me – never mind flirting back!
Coquette is a word that has been given a bad rap and I think it’s about time we made it a good thing again – what do you think?
