If eloquence in speech or writing is a delightful goal, then to be magniloquent would be going much too far, since by definition it is high blown and overly self-important speech that has little actual substance. A lovely word, both to read and say, magniloquent is that somewhat fearsome word that I do hope never describes my way of speaking or writing! Don’t get me wrong, I adore flowery, sesquipedalian words and I do naturally pepper them into my everyday, however, just like actual pepper, one never wants too much! My words must have meaning and actual use to them and I’m not one to use words to sound self-important (and boring – amIright?!).
