Word Nerd : Smaragdine

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsysmaragdine-definition-word-nerd-via-lawhimsyIn light of St. Patrick’s Day I figured that I would write a Word Nerd that related in one form or another. Smaragdine is perfect because what better way to share the love of the Irish then with a word that so ideally describes that magic Isle that is Ireland?!

ireland-smaragdine-landscape-via-lawhimsyOf Faeries, folklore, myth and majesty, Ireland’s smaragdine mountains and meadows are filled with an enchantment all their own and though I have never been, I still feel called home by their unique soul song.

Emerald is the most precious stone in the beryl group and it has been used to protect one from snake bites, help creativity, encouraged clarity and was a sign for immortality. It’s also been used for its supposed medicinal properties to help promote overall health, cure dysentery, heal the heart and kidneys and to improve vision.

So smaragdine is quite the lovely and practical word and gem and one I intend to use a lot more!
