Affirmation Mondays 305 ~ Summertime is Always the Best of What Might Be

Summertime is always the best of what might be Charles Bowden quote Monday Mantra 305 via LaWhimsy“Summertime is always the best of what might be. ” ~ Charles Bowden

Summer in the Northern Hemisphere has arrived…

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”

The longest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere has passed by, bringing with it thick, hot air that hangs low with a hint of rain despite the bright blue sky and blazing sun that shines down between multiple fluffy clouds. The air feels as though you must push through it to move, though the breeze moves with no difficulty, alleviating the almost stifling closeness with brief, lovely gusts.

Summertime is a time of abundance, of ripeness and richness. It is a time of wild, unbridled activity and lazy, torpid stillness. Summer holds promises of long, hot afternoons that stretch out into balmy evenings and shortened nights.

While each season holds its own meanings and promises and rituals, Summer holds a golden, shining place of honor in it’s unique encouragement of freedom. It’s a freedom we begin to look forward to early on when we get that break from school, from schedules, from teachers and grades and judgement from what feels like everyone.

I remember well that breath I’d let go of as I ran out of school on the last day of the semester, just as I remember all of the deep, happy, laughing breaths I’d take as the Summer wandered along. Sure, there was a certain amount of schedule to each day, but it was loose, easy, and filled with what felt like endless hours to fill however I wanted. I could read, and play, and image to my heart’s content. My Summers held no bullies or time-charts or heavy homework assignments or tests to study for. They simply held promise and softness and Me just as I was.

I think for many of us, Summer holds a memory of this kind of release and freedom, or if it doesn’t we wish it would. Summer can still provide all of these wonderful delights, even if we still have obligations and daily have-tos to attend to.

Start by looking over your day-to-day. There may be some things you can let go of or put on pause for a little bit. Other things you might be able to schedule a bit differently for a bit. You can also start putting in a few Summery kinds of things, like switching to iced coffee for the hot months or keeping popsicles in the freezer for a hot afternoon treat.

Summertime is always the best of what might be and it is a time to remind us that we can make our lives feel the way we want. We – every single one of us – is meant to live freely and wholly and openly. Embrace your awesomeness and always keep space open for others to do the same!

  1. Lovely thanks for the sense check. Summer is happening! A friend of mine used to, as a joke, say every year on 22 June, ‘ooh the nights are drawing in!’

    1. It is funny to think that Summer starts with the longest day and then proceeds as the days begin to grow shorter again since every Summer day feels sooo long!
