“What is the nature of the luxury which enervates and destroys nations? Are we sure that there is none of it in our own lives?” Henry David Thoreau (Economy)
We all know that feeling of being drained and weakened, whether it be physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually or all of the above. That feeling is described with the term enervate. The causes of enervation are as varied and numerous as there are stars in the sky and yet all is not lost so long as a bit of hope, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, shines through. It can be easy enough to simply want to give up, give into what, or who, enervates us and just barely move about our days in a weary haze. What if, instead, we take a moment to acknowledge the enervate cause and perhaps attempt to eliminate its influence?
Don’t let anyone ever dull your sparkle…or enervate your soul!
Isn’t that what renewal is all about – Changing that which only supplies a drain on our time, energies and selves and replacing it with that which vitalizes and invigorates our very spirits? I think it is and that’s why I chose enervate as this weeks Word Nerd since the first step to anything is to name it and recognize it. Make a list of a few things that enervate you and your life and see what you can do to maybe change or even eliminate them.

“Give one even the smallest of light and a weak heart can find strength in its shadow.” ~ Great word and even greater lessons in its meaning! 🙂
