“October, crisp, misty, golden October, when the light is sweet and heavy.” ~ Angela Carter
Autumn, melancholy and divinely hopeful all at once…
“October, crisp, misty, golden October, when the light is sweet and heavy.”
Sweet, changeable Autumn, how my very soul quickens at your arrival. My pulse, grown sluggish from the weary heat of late Summer, begins to flow once again, awakened by the cooling air. My heart almost bursts from my chest at the grand final show put on by Nature before it turns in for its Winter slumber.
Autumn you give us the promise of the Spring with your harvest bounty, your ripeness unrivaled. The greenery of Summer turns to colors bold, brilliant, and beautiful beyond description, though many have tried to capture at least a shadow of your glory.
Autumn, your melancholy ache and reminder of the fragility of life and the great cycle of Nature are a comfort to a wounded soul. You cradle us in your gift of the splendor of death and the assurance of rebirth. You give us space to mourn and grieve all while holding hope as a constant.
Autumn, you bring us back to our roots, our very homey essence that we can cultivate and cherish within our very selves. You encourage us to both spread our wings and cozy in when we have gone far enough. Our hearths burn brightest as we return once more homeward after the vibrant explorations of Spring and Summer and your slowly shortening days.
Autumn, you have healed me time and time again. You’ve brought my solace and joy and a balm to my weary, tender, bruised heart and soul. You are my solacing season of splendor, the kind that reaches into the deepest parts of me and expands them to the heavens and beyond.
Autumn, I thank you for bringing me extra comfort this year when I needed it most and for reminding yet again that this one great and precious life is such a gift. A gift to be treasured and lifted up again and again and again, each and every single day.
What is Autumn for you?
Namaste ~ Ella
