“Only the weak are cruel. Gentleness can only be expected from the strong.” ~ Leo Buscaglia
Gentleness is such a powerful strength…
“Only the weak are cruel. Gentleness can only be expected from the strong.”
There is so much importance in this simple statement. Yet, so many are so quick to ignore, or worse still, deny, it. So many would get lost amidst the minutia, arguing just what constitutes as cruelty, completely missing the plain fact that any anything that willfully causes pain or suffering to anyone – even if you don’t agree with whomever is suffering – is cruelty.
Cruelty has become a default among so many of us, whether it is through the easy way we quickly judge others and make our opinions as such known (especially through social media) or the way our government is going in it’s greedy, vicious, attack all those who do not believe or live the way a smallish set of people desire them to. Not to mention all of the murky, grey areas in between these two oversimplified examples. Ugh.
The simple fact is that true power, true strength derives from gentleness. From compassion. From the basis of love in it’s purest of forms.
To be gentle with one’s self and with others is to tap into the greatest form of power. To lead with gentleness is to lead from a place of inner, loving strength.
I mean, if you break it down, almost every single religion actually states this, just in a variety of different, yet similar, ways. That message, however, has basically become lost in the rush for dominance and what so many think is power, but is only just mortal trappings of hate, anger, and fear of lacking and failing (of what exactly changes from day to day, person to person, lifetime to lifetime).
Gentleness is a balm to all of this. Kindness a remedy. Love an answer. By choosing to think and feel and act from a place of inner strength and power, you are choosing gentleness and you are turning away from cruelty. By seeking out those who do the same, you are retraining yourself to see power for what it really is – love.
Changes like this are both amazingly life-altering and world-altering. It can oftentimes feel like you are beating against the tides, alone and sometimes drowning in the overwhelm of what seems like cruelty (majority) rule, yet it’s the gentle way that will eventually overcome. The inner peace that comes from it is so ultimately worth it.
Start by actively choosing to be gentle with yourself and before you know it, you’ll be finding ways to express yourself and your beliefs in ways that go against cruelty and that lift up yourself and others. True strength doesn’t need to be hateful to make it’s point and purpose known.
