Affirmation Mondays

Affirmation Mondays 331 – When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.

Look for the helpers You will always find people who are helping Mister Rogers quote Affirmation Mondays 331 via LaWhimsy “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”” ~ Mister Rogers

In so many, many ways I wish this quote was not so vitally important…

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.””

Once more this isn’t the quote I wanted to use today. In fact this is a quote that, while it has provided much comfort over the years, I wish it didn’t have to.

Tragedies seem to unfold al around us at an almost incomprehensible way. From wars, to control over other’s bodies and physical autonomy, to mass shootings taking place at a sicking rate.

It’s the truth that this world can be an incredibly scary, sad, unnerving, sickening place. It is also the truth that this world can  be a glorious, neighborly, loving, kind place too.

Tragedies may happen, the ugly may show, but if you look for humanity, for the pureness of the human heart that shows up and helps when that happens, you see the the other side. It’s almost cruelly ironic, but the worst of humanity more often than not brings forth the very best of humanity.

Mister Rogers’ words (and his lovely Mother’s) are a soothing, comforting balm as well as a call to action. A call to bring forth your best and to be a helper – even if only in the smallest of ways.

The light of the world can overshadow the dark if we help each other. If we refuse to allow the hatred to be the loudest and only driving force.

My heart goes out to each and every soul affected by all of the various tragedies in this world. Let us look for the helpers as we help and heal. Let us bring forth our light, our love, our goodness and repel the ugly, the angry, and the cruelly forceful. Let us be the best of humanity, or at least the very best we can be right here, right now.
