Having healthy boundaries is an essential and vital aspect of self-care…

“Having boundaries is a form of self-love and self-respect”

There is a certain school of thought that makes the idea of personal boundaries in relationships is unimportant or makes one off-putting and cold. This is so not the case! Having and setting healthy boundaries insures that your needs, wants and desires are being heard and met by those who are in your life.

Having boundaries is truly nothing more that having clear and respectful guidelines for how you want to be treated by others. By having these boundaries you are respecting and treating yourself with kindness and love and you are ensuring that you are receiving the same from others. With boundaries you are saying that your self-worth is important and is not to be neglected and in turn you will respect and value another person’s worth as well.

Yes, having boundaries can seem to push some people away or turn them off of you, but that is why you have them. If someone chooses to see your healthy boundaries as an affront or offensive, well then they are not worth your time or your trouble. If you are made to feel guilty for having boundaries, then the person making you feel that way is not one of your people. Those who truly love you and respect you will not intentionally make you feel bad for knowing your worth and your limits.

I know it’s one of those things that is easy to say and much more difficult to do, but trust me when I say that having healthy boundaries is worth it. And the more clear you are about it and the more you stand firm in what your self-worth and self-respect need, the easier is gets ask that other recognize them. It also gets easier to state kindly but resolutely that if they can’t or won’t recognize your boundaries then they aren’t welcome in your life anymore. It sucks, but ultimately it is up to them to choose to respect you or not and it does not reflect on you, only on them.

For your own good, please set healthy boundaries that make you feel loved, respected and worthy – by yourself and by all those who are a part of your life. Having boundaries is an act of self-love and self-respect and it’s one that everyone should feel positive about. You are worth knowing and those who respect your boundaries are those who are worth knowing in-return!
