Monday Mantra 278 – Don’t ever be ashamed of loving the strange things that make your weird little heart happy

Don't ever be ashamed of loving the strange things that make your weird little heart happy Elizabeth Gilbert quote Monday Mantra 278 via LaWhimsy“Don’t ever be ashamed of loving the strange things that make your weird little heart happy.” ~ Elizabeth Gilbert

We are all a little weird here…

“Don’t ever be ashamed of loving the strange things that make your weird little heart happy.”

Weird is defined as of strange or extraordinary character or strikingly odd or unusual.  That stated, everyone, and I mean every single person, has a little weirdness about them. It’s just a basic fact.

Normal, after all, is simply conforming to a type or expectation and doing what is expected of you by societal standards and established protocols. You know, hiding and suppressing your weird out of fear of sticking out.

By choosing “normal” over your own truth, you keep your weird hidden and that usually leads to feeling of shame and unhappiness. Who wants to feel that way? “Normal” simply isn’t worth it.

What is worth it is being true to yourself. By valuing and celebrating your weird and all those little, strange things that make your weird heart happy, you are valuing yourself. That is a priceless commodity that cannot be bought or sold, but can only spread and multiplied as you share it by simply living it.

To embrace your weird is to be at once loving and kind and defiant and rebellious. By saying no the “normal” that doesn’t speak or work for you and actively deciding to live your “normal” you defy the box society wants to suppress you in.

I know I talk a lot about “society” and how it seeks to control and define each of us, but if you really take a moment to look at society it’s the honest truth. For as long as humans have lived in so-called “civilizations”, those in charge have wanted a way to control the “masses” so as to keep their power supreme and absolute. This has never worked for any truly great length of time, hence the constant upheavals and wars and tensions.

The greatest power any one person has is over themselves and their actions. By actively choosing to say no to the status quo, even if it’s in small, simple ways, you take that power out of the hands of others and place in back where it belongs – with you.

This lovely quote is both a fantastic call to action and a love note of permission to embrace all that makes your weird heart happy and light. Just as Elizabeth Gilbert as said to “Embrace the glorious mess that you are.”, you can add to it by allowing your freak flag to fly, even if it’s only in delightful, tiny ways.

Elizabeth Gilbert also encourages us to remember that “A creative life is an amplified life.” and everyone is capable of living and embracing a creative, amplified life that celebrates the weird and wonderful and the paths less traveled and created as you go.

Why suppress or let others keep you from enjoying anything deemed strange or unusual or different if that is what makes your heart and soul sing? Live it, love it, and fully let your own self decided what you want your life to be. It’s in this way we will begin to heal and change the world and society for the better. One weird little heart at a time!
