“Ego says, “Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace.” Spirit says,” Find your peace and then everything will fall into place.”.” ~ Marianne Williamson
We all desire, seek out, and long for peace…
“Ego says, “Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace.” Spirit says,” Find your peace and then everything will fall into place.”.”
Peace, that sweet, harmonious feeling that we imagine washes over us and envelopes us in a calm centeredness amidst the chaos that is the world at large. It’s a relaxation and contentment we all yearn for and are often without.
We constantly tell ourselves that if only we get our lives and selves in order, figured out, neatly set in place, then, and only then, will we know and feel peace. This is a huge lie constructed by the demands and expectations of society that we internalize. And it’s a lie we so fully buy into that it’s difficult to actually believe it’s not the real truth.
The real truth, however, is the exact opposite. If we seek out and find our own peace, then everything else will fall into place. By actively defining our own unique peace exactly where and how we are, in whatever the given situation we find ourselves in, we will bring about a sense of calm and order. It’s astounding how it works.
It’s such an easy trap to fall into, this way of thinking that drives peace to some future place that can only be achieved through the impossible. I mean, who ever has everything ideally in place and all at the same time? Life just doesn’t play that way. There will always be too many variables, too many surprises, left turns, detours, and differing views to have things “just so”.
You, however, will always be you and you have the ability to cultivate your inner workings however you choose. This means that you can create your own sense of peace within and allow that to bring about peace outside of yourself as well. By deciding to find peace exactly where you are right now, you will be activating a sense of centered, harmonious calm – no need for things to fall into place required.
This is what meditation, breathing awareness and exercises, yoga, etc are all trying to do – aid you in finding a sense of peace in the present, in the now. It’s not about perfecting an asana or going to an ashram for weeks on end before you magically find peace, it’s about pausing where you are, as you are, and making space for a sense of peace within yourself.
When you take a moment to focus on your breath, you are taking a moment to foster peace. When you step away from the busy of your day even for a moment, and close your eyes or take in the sight of whatever nature is right in front of you, you are activating peace. The more you do this, the more things in your life will being to shift and fall into place.
How will you choose to cultivate a sense of peace for yourself right now?
