Affirmation Mondays 186 – Try approving of yourself and see what happens.

Try approving of yourself and see what happens Louise L Hay quote Monday Mantra 186 via LaWhimsyRemember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” ~ Louise L. Hay

What could be more radical, more progressive and rebellious than a new way of thinking. Of doing and being…

“Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”

If last year proved anything it was that “normal” and the time-worn ways of doing things, of thinking things, has long been broken. And I don’t know about you, but I’m done with all the things that make me feel ill, or wrong, or that just plain old don’t work for me!

Being critical of one’s self has been the norm for way too long. It’s something that all of us, especially females, have been trained since birth to do.

I’m done with it. Being critical of myself doesn’t work to help me be a better version of myself. It doesn’t make me stronger or wiser or perform or present myself at my best. It does the exact opposite. Being critical makes me feel small, upset, like I’m somehow failing or not measuring up to some unseen, unattainable standard that doesn’t quite exist. Being critical just keeps me in one awful, negative, dark place.

So I’m doing away with criticizing myself. Why am I judging myself and finding fault with the human that I am? Why am I harshly chastising myself for making mistakes or for blundering this or that? If instead of reprimanding myself, what if I choose to be gentle and forgiving? If I seek out ways to approve of myself for handling a misstep or for straightening out a snafu, I feel better and I know that even though I am a fallible human I’m a lovable, learning one.

This world needs more kindness and the best place to start is with yourself. Years of criticizing has not worked – not with others and certainly not with yourself. Try finding ways to accept and approve of yourself (and there are way more than you realize) and see what a difference it makes. See what happens when you open yourself up to approval, to kindness. It will amaze you!
