Autumn Poetry and Photography Along The Blue Ridge Parkway

Blue Ridge Parkway Fall Skyline Fever photography by LaWhimsyIt’s that beautiful, poetic, dreamscape time of year. When the veils between Worlds is thin, the trees give up their foliage in a fiery display, and the days grow colder, darker, and cozier. I adore the sad, sweet Autumn months and take complete delight in the turning of the seasons. This lovely little collection of images come from my jaunt along the Blue Ridge Parkway this past weekend, and though it was most difficult to limit myself to but a few, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Blue Ridge Parkway Autumn Foliage photography by LaWhimsy“It’s spicy air and moldering ground, it’s sharp contrasts and cracking sounds, Autumn has come, it’s finally here, that last great burst of Nature’s flare. So marvel now, take some time, delight and wonder at the divine.” ~ Ella Patrice

Blue Ridge Parkway Dodson Creek Mill photography by LaWhimsyThe softened light, the veiling haze,
The calm repose of autumn days,
Steal gently o’er the troubled breast,
Soothing life’s weary cares to rest.
~Phebe A. Holder, “A Song of October,” in The Queries Magazine, October 1890

Blue Ridge Parkway Fall Dreamscape photography by LaWhimsyIn shadowy woods the brown nuts fall
As sweeps the wind through tree tops tall…
In golden bars through leafy doors
The sunshine falls on forest floors…
~Phebe A. Holder, “A Song of October,” in The Queries Magazine, October 1890

Blue Ridge Parkway Autumn Skyline photography by LaWhimsyThe transparent haze which rests upon the mountain-top at noon,—the calmness in the air, and the clearness of the sky, now have a most mysterious influence upon the heart. The “still small voice” of nature makes us thoughtful; and seems to invite us to think upon the swiftness with which our days are passing away. How often at such an hour, have I been startled by the beating of my own heart! And the sunsets of Autumn,—are they not gorgeous beyond description? more so than the brightest dreams of poetry? ~Charles Lanman, “The Dying Year,” 1840

Blue Ridge Parkway Maybry Mill Autumn photography by LaWhimsyAutumn is so utterly magical, so amazingly divine! This is but a mere taste of the wonders my eyes and soul feasted upon as I drove and wandered along the Blue Ridge, marveling and gasping in complete awe. Never will Nature lose it’s sheer, startling, heart-touching joy. For me, it brings me home with-in and with-out myself and the tears that dance into my eyes are ones of the purest joy. I am so glad I live in this World!!! Thank you for joining me in this bit of Fall Love!!!

Namaste ~ Ella
