Affirmation Mondays 323 – It takes a great deal of courage to see the world in all its tainted glory and still learn to love it

It takes a great deal of courage to see the world in all its tainted glory and still learn to love it Oscar Wilde quote Affirmation Monday 323 via LaWhimsy“It takes a great deal of courage to see the world in all its tainted glory and still learn to love it” ~ Oscar Wilde

The world, our world, is what we make of it…

“It takes a great deal of courage to see the world in all its tainted glory and still learn to love it.”

The world can be, and is, a dark, scary, tainted place. There is what seems to be a constant stream of news and stories and reasons to be anxious, horrified, and petrified by this world and society we live in and call home. It’s overwhelming, sordid, corrupt, and seemingly hopeless in a countless number of ways.

Yet, there is still so much beauty, hope, decency, kindness, and joy to be had in and of this world. It’s a heady, pure, soiled and sordid mix and that’s the true state of it. Oscar Wilde knew what He was about when He stated that “It takes a great deal of courage to see the world in all its tainted glory and still learn to love it.”.

We cannot simply see one side of something and expect to understand it. Oh, we can choose to put blinders up and ignore that which we would rather not know about, but in doing so, we lack the full richness of the whole. By actively deciding that we will take it all in(in a reasonable way), we are able to fully become aware. And it is through this awareness that true wisdom and growth will begin.

By acknowledging that, yes, terrible things have happened and are still happening in this world, we can do our part to prevent it from continuing. We can do something to break the cycle and we can choose love instead of hate. By choosing knowledge over ignorance, by choosing openness instead of disbelief, by choosing kindness instead of contempt, we learn to love the world while being witness to it’s tainted glory.

It is not easy, but it is not difficult either. One doesn’t have to just see the ugly or horrid to be witness. Rather, one must be open and willing to educate themselves about the world and it’s happenings in order to actively choose the path of change and hope for all.

I am one who chooses to seek out and see the beauty and joys the world holds. I do my best to do this on a daily, even hourly, basis and by doing so I am creating a lovely, hope-filled life for myself and those I am close to. Now, just because I choose a love-drenched life path doesn’t mean that I am ignorant of, or blind to, the negative currents that life has. I just choose to focus on the good and on the good I can do and spread around me. I see and embrace the world in all its tainted glory and I love it and do my best to bring about a positive balance where and how I can.

If each of us did this, think of how amazing the world could be! Past History and current history is filled with dark, horrid actions and cruelty and if we would but actively learn from it, instead of repeat it through different means, we could truly be progressing and growing. If it must be done person by person, well, it’s still growth and even the smallest of actions can cause a huge impact.

How will you choose to see the world? Only for its tainted glory, or for its tainted glory and the way that love, your love, could help heal and change it?

Namaste ~ Ella
