Life is chock-full of secrets and this is no exception…
“The secret of reaping the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment from life is to live dangerously.”
Living dangerously can mean a wide variety of things. Everything from the rule-breaking, life on the edge Fast and Furious type of danger to the simple, mundane, everyday acts of subversion.
Truth is, it’s those little radical acts that make the biggest and longest lasting difference.
To live dangerously, for me, is to live my core truth fully and completely each day. It means ignoring all the “shoulds” and pre-set timelines that supposedly make up the ideal life according to society. It means embracing all of the flaws that everything around me wants me to fix to be acceptable. It means living my life according to my own inner compass and morals – not some outside set of “holy rules”.
Living dangerously means still wearing a mask despite being fully vaccinated, despite sticking out like a sore thumb most of the time. It means dressing in ways that make me feel beautiful and comfortable and not caring if someones tries to shame me for it (that is so on them and their issues). It means doing me even if other judge me lacking (their baggage, not mine). It means embracing anyone else who is doing the same so long as they aren’t negatively affecting anyone else (and most who are being true to themselves are all about love and acceptance so it’s not an issue).
To fully live and reap the greatest fruitfulness and enjoyment in life we must cast aside the shackles that society tries so hard to cast upon us. They are heavy, needless weights that are there to keep us small and powerless and passive. We are meant to stand tall and strong in ourselves so that we can raise all those around us. We are here to make ripples and to throw off the oppressors and to shine out bright.
Yes, this sounds like a call to arms, and in a way it is. It’s a call to wake up and to embrace your amazing, loving, powerful self. You were born to be YOU and to find the joy and enrichment that surrounds you at every moment, no matter how small it may be.
Self love is subversive since it goes against the common idea that your flaws are something to be hidden, fixed, and rejected. In reality they are to embraced and treated with gentleness and acceptance. Live a little dangerously today by simply being kind to yourself and by rejecting a bit of the narrative created by society. You are an awesome badass!
