“I shut my eyes in order to see.”~ Paul Gauguin
“I shut my eyes in order to see.”
You know, Gauguin was on to something that is both simplistic and profound.
When you shut your eyes, you tune out all of the excess noise, opinions, notions, and outer influences and you tune into your own heart, your own mind and knowing. You already possess the deep, steady wisdom that defines who and what you are and that can provide you with your own truth.
Life is all about the new, all about learning and experiencing and stretching yourself and discovering everything around you. It’s exciting, daunting, and overwhelming. The trick is learning when to shut your eyes to all of the outer influences and see yourself, your truth, your very core and how it fits into this dizzying life and world.
When you shut your eyes in order to see, you are centering yourself and you are seeing what you already know and lining it up with what you’ve learned. As a creative soul (as we all truly are), you close your eyes in order to see what it is that wants to burst forth from your essence and be given into this world.
In the creative there is no right or wrong, there simply is and that’s what happens when you shut your eyes in order to see. You see your best, your truth, your clarity. And isn’t that a magnificent thing?
