Word Nerd: Sláinte

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsyslainte definition Word Nerd via LaWhimsySlainte means health in Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Sláinte is derived from the old Irish slán (safe or healthy) and the suffix tu .FYI, slán also means advantageous and can also be linked to the Latin salus (health) and the German selig (blessed), neat, huh?!

Sláinte is pronounced like slawn-che and it’s most commonly used as a toast or salutation. Sláinte is both Irish and Scottish and it’s meaning and spelling do not differ in either place.

slainte here's to a long life and a merry one via LaWhimsySláinte!

I’m quite fond of using sláinte, especially since I am part Irish and St. Patrick’s Day is my birthday. I receive and give many a sláinte and I send one to you, may your blessings be many and your troubles be few!!!

Namaste ~ Ella
