Noctiphany is the manifestation of something that happens only at night. Noctiphany is an incredibly rare word that derives from the Latin nocti (night) and the Greek -phany (appearance or manifestation).
October, and more specifically the celebration of Halloween, is all about noctiphany. The veil between worlds is at it’s thinnest and all kinds of nocturnal happens are afoot. Ghosts and ghouls are notorious spirits of noctiphany. Various cryptozooalogical creatures are all about noctiphany since so many of their alleged sightings have occurred at night, when all is dark and quiet and spooky.
Dare you confront the noctiphany that might occur outside your door in the darkness…
I find noctiphany to be something of an odd word since it was an accident that I stumbled upon it and then all but impossible to find defined anywhere. Yes, there was nocturnal and I just did my own dissection of the word to put together it’s origin. Then there’s actually using it in a sentence, which I simply find to be a bit clunky. Noctiphany is so lovely on it’s own though, maybe that’s it’s particular charm? Anyway, perhaps you can find a way to utilize it better? Enjoy noctiphany!
