Monday Mantra 241 – Authenticity…Embracing who we are

Authenticity embracing who we are Brene Brown quote Monday Mantra 241 via LaWhimsy“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.” ~ Brene Brown

How often do you long to let go of the supposed tos and embrace your truth instead…

“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.”

Authenticity and Authentic are words that are thrown about so much that they have almost lost all meaning. You constantly hear things like “Be authentic” or “This is my authentic truth” or “Your insert whatever here needs authenticity to be real and relatable” and while it may make sense it’s can also leave you a bit in the dark because just what is authenticity and how does it relate to you?!

Authenticity, specifically when it comes to you, is beautifully put by Brene Brown as “…the daily practice of letting go of who you think you’re supposed to be and embracing who you are.”.

How does reading that statement make you feel? Do you feel a sense of ease or longing? Perhaps you feel a bit of disbelief or incredulousness. Maybe a mix of things. Odds are it’s because you aren’t fully practicing your own authenticity and your soul yearns to.

There are many, many reasons why so many live and present in a way they think they are supposed to instead of how and who they are. It can be from fear or unease caused by societal pressures, censure from friends and family or even personal expectations. Society at large excels at placing false and unrealistic goals and notions into all of our heads on a daily, even hourly, basis.

In so many ways, actually and actively choose to practice authenticity is the ultimate act of rebellion in a world filled with a desire for mindless clones chasing after unattainable, everchanging goals. Harsh, I know, but kinda, sorta, totally true.

The only way out of the matrix (to borrow a phrase) is to develop your own voice, your own self, your own authenticity and to practice it daily by letting go of all of the things you’re supposed to be or want that don’t jive with who you are.

You are actually an amazing, fascinating, interesting person and the more you place importance on your authenticity, the more awesome you become. It’s the truth.

I know that I have had some major moments of feeling that who and what I am is lame or boring or even not right in society’s eyes. But anytime I tried to “fit in” I felt horrible and off. It didn’t matter if others thought I was great – I didn’t and that was all that truly mattered. So I began a daily practice of making sure that my authentic self is present and appreciated by me and I have never felt more myself and I love Her! Sure, some people may think I’m dull or boring but I don’t care cause they are not my people. Others may think I’m down right weird but it doesn’t matter – I adore my quirks and weirdness.

It’s not always easy and there are times when I forget and find myself falling into the trap of “supposed tos” but I always find a way back to my authentic self because my authentic self is home and She is always there, waiting with open arms.

You deserve to embrace and be your own authentic self and to appreciate your own awesome quirks and strengths. How will you choose to practice your authenticity today?

Namaste ~ Ella
