Word Nerd: Apricate

Word Nerd Header Apr 2016 via LaWhimsyapricate definition Word Nerd via LaWhimsyApricate means to bask in, or to expose to, the warmth of the sunlight. Apricate, much like apricity, derives from the Latin aprīcus (warmed by the sun). Apricate can be used in it’s various forms of apricating, apricated and apricates – all of which are highly appropriate for the Summer season!

While apricity relates to longing feelings that derive in the late winter months, apricate is in full force from the late spring to the early autumn. Of course, it would be highly remiss of me to tell you about aprication without reminding you to mind your self and not get sunburned or overheated!

I felt that apricate was a rather ideal word since tomorrow marks the first official day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere (though if you go by how the weather has been, Summer has been here since May!)! I hope you have a chance to do some apricating of your own, just be safe about it!!!
